Rick Simpson and RSO
“Rick Simpson Oil is so hot right now!,” as Mugatu would say. You may be asking yourself, who is Rick Simpson, and why is his oil all the rage right now? Rick Simpson is a man who developed and documented a formula/home recipe for essential cannabis oil manufacturing and a protocol for the application/consumption of essential Cannabis oils for the treatment of cancer in patients. He is still alive today and continues to be a huge advocate for the use of medical cannabis oil for the treatment of cancer and other devastating conditions.
BRIEF HISTORY. Rick was a hospital employee doing HVAC work at a hospital in Canada in the 90’s. He was in charge of applying a coating of Aerosol glue to the pipes in the building to cover up the asbestos pipe insulation. Simpson was injured at work when he fell from a ladder after experiencing a dizzy spell caused by the Aerosol fumes. He experienced lifelong tinnitus and dizzy spells as a result of his fall and was prescribed medications that didn’t work for him.
He began to see stories about the applications of medical cannabis to improve human health and decided to ask his doctor about it. Apparently, his doctor blew him off and wouldn’t consider discussing the use of medical cannabis for his ailments. However, in 2003, he started finding bumps on his arms that were of concern to him.
The bumps were tested and turned out to be basil carcinoma, an aggressive skin cancer. After hearing of a scientific study that successfully killed cancer cells with cannabis oil in mice, he decided to use cannabis oil to treat his own skin cancer. He would drip a full spectrum cannabis oil on a bandage and on the bumps, and after only four days, the cancer was gone.
From that point on, he was determined to let people know about his findings and to make sure that people could get the meds they needed. His farm was raided several times in Canada, but he’s remained determined to make medicine.
HOW TO USE RSO. First, speak with your physician to see if RSO would be a good treatment regimen for you. Many physicians refuse to discuss, or make recommendations for the use of cannabis as a medical treatment of any kind, so be prepared for that to happen. If you find a doctor who will support your use of cannabis oil, and work with you to develop a treatment plan, then hold on to that doctor with both hands and tell everyone you know about them!!
If you decide you still want to pursue the use of medical cannabis as a treatment option, you could reach out to a dispensary, or licensed caregiver to ask questions. However, the recommended DIY protocol is outlined below.
The goal for the patient is to gradually consume 60 grams of Rick Simpson Oil over the course of a 90-day period. How one gets there is ultimately an individualized and personalized protocol, but below is the general guideline for someone who doesn’t have access to custom doses.
Week 1: Start with 3 doses each day
To begin, a half grain of rice sized drop of RSO should be administered every eight hours, each dose (in the morning, noon, and night). The first dose will be about ¼ of a drop of RSO.
Weeks 2 through 5: Double your dose every four days
The average person will take between three and five weeks to reach the full dosage of one gram of RSO per day.
Weeks 5 through 12: Take one gram of RSO daily until you’ve consumed the full 60 grams.
The patient will eventually be taking about 8-9 rice-sized drops of RSO every eight hours.
Some folks find the taste of the RSO bitter or unpleasant, so it can be mixed with food, beverages, or put in to custom doses in pill capsules. Proudly, Soylent Greens is able to provide our patients with custom, precision formula, RSO capsules in many common ratios of THC to CBD.
A PERSONAL RSO STORY. I’ve been talking with my grandparents for the last several months about the work that I do specifically, as well as the use of the cannabis plant as medication in general. There have been some things that have happened in their personal lives that have sparked some of the conversations we’ve had recently. However, I’ll admit that I’ve been actively discussing these things with them, as I of course believe that they would both benefit from the medicine in the plant.
Then my grandfather was recently diagnosed with cancer, and we discussed the obvious possibility of using the RSO to assist in the treatment of his health issues. He listened to what I and others had to say, but opted instead for traditional therapies only. Another conversation about medical cannabis was sparked when my grandparents received their AARP Bulletin magazine. In the most recent issue was an article highlighting some of the medical benefits of the plant.
My grandmother and I have been close for many years, but these conversations have certainly helped us understand where the other was coming from. After many discussions about how the Rick Simpson Oil could help my grandmother’s digestive and stomach issues, she decided to pray about it. After praying about it, she decided she would try it.
For over a month now, I’ve been supplying my grandmother with low dose RSO capsules to treat her stomach ailments. Guess what folks, the oil is working for her and she’s decided to get a med card. She’s now able to eat a wider range of things without experiencing pain and discomfort. She’s also using a high potency thc/cbd salve on her arthritic hands, neck and shoulders. The medications she’s using are working for her and changing her life. And she’s not a huge advocate for medical cannabis. Plus, it’s brought us a lot closer which is important, because we all have a lot to learn from our elders!
